Genesis  :
 
      LAVS is a non-Government, non-political, non-profit making organization engaged in the field of social development. It was founded by a group of like-minded social activists in the year 1991 and simultaneously registered under Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 in the year 1991. LAVS is a democratic, registered Non-Government Organization. Its affairs are carried out in accordance with a written constitution. It does not work for profit nor serves any sectarian interest. It eschews violence in any form.
 
 
 

      The apex decision making body is the General Body comprising of all its members. The governance is bestowed on a Governing Body democratically elected from among the General Body every 5 years. The President is the Chief executive of the organization.

Enabling the community for fighting against poverty and natural calamities.
   
Vision :
 
      A society where peoples’ action is given priority for benefit and betterment of poor and marginal sections of the community, guaranteeing eco-friendly sustainable development based on equity, empowerment and initiatives for self reliance by the target clients.

      Facilitating Community capacity building and Skill up gradation to promote in them a sense of ownership and active partnership in programmes pertaining to their development and well-being

 

Core Objective  :
 
 
Promote welfare and advancement of weaker sections including women,children & tribal people in Orissa.
Promote universal access to quality health care and Primary Education.
Facilitate provisioning & utilization of a comprehensive range of health & educational services for the community.
Promote population stabilization measures and small family norms.
Ensure livelihood security for the poor and marginalized through the development vocational capabilities.
Take up women development activities – SHGs, Vocational Training, IG units & protection from violence as well as gender-based discriminations.
Popularize watershed management strategies especially in rain fed and drought prone areas.
Motivate beneficiaries for undertaking steps to improve agriculture, horticulture, fishery and animal resources.
Motivate people for voluntary action & participation in development process.
Generate awareness on energy conservation and promotion of alternate energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, biogas & smokeless chulla, etc.
Conduct disaster preparedness and disaster response activities.
Undertake programme/projects/study in the HIV/AIDS prevalence areas & ensure quality of life of the people living with HIV/AIDS
Undertake action research projects and special studies in diverse fields pertaining to social, economic and human development.
